May 18 - 23 and October 5 - 10, 2008. Bruce presents two sessions of his very popular and remarkable Complete Photographic Process workshops at his home/studio in Washington's North Cascade Mountains. From field sessions and indoor lectures stressing ideas on photographic seeing, understanding light, and creating effective compositions, to negative development and printing—including printing demonstrations of the fine silver-gelatin print by Bruce followed by hands-on printing in Bruce's amazing darkroom by students—this workshop has it all. There are no comparable workshops anywhere. Surprisingly, it can also be extremely valuable to those doing digital work. See Photographic Workshops on this website for complete details.
July 13 - 17, 2008. The "Art of Seeing" workshop will be a whole new approach to photographic creativity. Rather than concentrating on outdoor shooting, we'll concentrate on indoor seeing, thinking, discussing, and preparing for the making of fine photographs. What do you consider to be a great photograph? Do you feel you are capable of making one? What do you look for when you have a camera in hand? Do you shoot b&w or color, and what determines your choice? Do you edge toward realism or abstraction? Why? This will be the focus of this unusual and very penetrating workshop. See the detailed workshop description in this website for details. It will be a very insightful workshop.
July 27 - August 1, 2008. Bruce's famous Master Printing Class will again be offered for those (like Bruce) who recognize the unmatched richness and brilliance of a traditional silver-gelatin photographic print, as displayed by Bruce's major exhibits early this year in Seattle, Eureka, and Nashville. Those who wish to bring their printing skills to a higher level have the opportunity to watch Bruce print his own negatives in the darkroom, explaining the thinking and analyzing that precedes his printing, adn the tools and techniques he employs for his unmatched printing quality. Then, you'll have the opportunity to print your own negatives, armed with the new infomation you have learned. Photographs and negatives brought to the workshop by all students will be thoroughly reviewed and discussed, with an eye toward improving them during your printing sessions. This is both a popular and a remarkable workshop.
